History

The Utrecht 2 was a expanded logboat of oak (dimensions 12.8 by 3 meters) that was found in 1974 in Waterstraat in the City of Utrecht. The remains of the ship are very similar to the Utrecht 1.

The Utrecht 1 boat is the first and best known example of several expanded log boat finds with similar features, labelled the 'Utrecht type'.

Utrecht 1

Draswing of a extended logboat of the Utrecht type.

No iron was used in the construction of the boat. Due to the archaeological context, the ship is dated at the beginning of the eleventh century.
