History
The VOC bought the Sterreschans in 1789 from an English Shipyard for 35 000 guilders with the goal of using the ship for transport in the Indian Ocean.
Within 4 years of its purchase, the Sterreschans was wrecked in a north-westerly gale near the Castle in Table Bay. Fortunately, no lives were lost during the incident.

The exact location of this wreck has not been found because it lies beneath reclaimed land.
