History

The VOC bought the Sterreschans in 1789 from an English Shipyard for 35 000 guilders with the goal of using the ship for transport in the Indian Ocean.

Within 4 years of its purchase, the Sterreschans was wrecked in a north-westerly gale near the Castle in Table Bay. Fortunately, no lives were lost during the incident.
