History
After the lost naval battle at Beachy Head, the combined British-Dutch fleet fled towards Thames estuary. Seven badly damaged ships were taken in tow. Chased by the French fleet, the seven ships, including the Noorderkwartier, had to be abandoned. The ships were set on fire by their own crew to prevent capture by the French.
