History
The Heemstede was a flute ship probably purchased in 1640.(1)
She made 1 homeward bound trip (Texel 3-5-1640, Batavia 17-12-1640, Texel 1641).
Her second departure started on 14-1-1642. She then continued to serve in Asia. The Heemstede sailed between Bengal and Batavia, among other places.

Heemstede burned
The Heemstede was in Pipeley (Baliapal) Bengal in 1650 - being a decommissioned old ship - she was pulled onto dry land in early October to burn the hull clean and remove fouling.
Due to carelessness, the flames burst into the ship through the porthole of the constabel room (aft). The Heemstede burned down completely. Two men were killed. Later, skipper Barend Jansen died: "apparently you died after a heartache on the Herwaerts Reyso in the Straet Sunda of the World."
