History

On July 6, 1917, the Handel en Visscherij and Piet Hein from Maassluis were apprehended and sunk by the German submarine UC 33.

The German captain claimed that they were sailing outside territorial waters and were therefore in violation. The crew floated in the boats for three days before being picked up.
