History
The Gelderland was a frigate. The ship was purchased in 1651 as part of a fleet reinforcement program. 36 ships were purchased / built.
The Gelderland first served in the Mediterranean. Isaac Sweers was writer on board at the time and his journal has been preserved.
During the Battle of the Gabbard (12-13 June 1653) the Gelderland exploded. only 5 men survived the disaster,
