Presentday Scarborough bay (Nieuw Vlissingen) was the site of two naval battles that were fought in 1677 between the Dutch and French fleets.

The advice yacht Fortuin was situated on the right wing. She caught fire and drifted in the bay colliding to other Dutch ships.

The Dutch lost ten vessels and The French 5. Some of the ships that were lost by the Dutch and Frenchmay have been located recently.
