History

The sailing lugger Elisabeth with registration number VL 22 was owned by Verboon from the Dutch port of Vlaardingen until 1918. She was bought by the firm Spurn IV from IJmuiden on January 31st, 1918.

Two times IJM 253

Then she also received the new fishery number IJM 253. This number belonged to another Elisabeth, also owned by Spurn IV shipowners, that was lost in October 1917.

This Elisabeth was also lost with all hands. The cause could not be established with certainty, but the Shipping Council thought it likely that it was connected to the wartime circumstances.

A comparable steel lugger like the Elisabeth. The type was called 'platgat' (flatbottom) because of the flat stern.
