A small yacht or break-down boat. Was taken to the Indies as a kit on the large return ships. Deployed as privateer or war yacht in Chinese waters.
The Bovenkarspel was assigned to Governor Putman's fleet to blockade the Chinese bay Xiamen (Amoy) in July-October 1633.
On October 7, 1633, the Bovenkarspel fell off her anchors due to heavy weather. Stranded and partly smashed with the loss of a corporal, a soldier and two sailors.
The artillery was recovered. and she came back smoothly October 11th. But was so leaky that she was set on fire. (Zeelandia day register Part I p 134)
