History

Amsterdam had 22 passengers aboard including admiraal Adriaan Valkenier with 5 servants and 13 lijfschutten (bodyguards).

At the Cape this former Gouverneur-Generaal of the VOC was arrested; he was accused by the future Gouverneur-Generaal Van Imhoff of being responsible for the notorious 'Chinese Murders' in Batavia in 1740. In August, 1742, Valkenier was transported back to Batavia.

But the Amsterdam never made it to Batavia as she wrecked off the Shetland Islands.
