History

De Trouw was a fluyt ship purchased in Zaandam (Sardam) by the VOC chamber Amsterdam.*

She departed on April 3, 1649, for the Zeeland chamber bound for Batavia (arrival September 20, 1649). De Trouw remained in Asia after her outward journey. She sailed, among other routes, on the Far East route (Batavia-Siam-Taiwan-Japan).

De Trouw arrived in Batavia on December 3, 1658. By then, she was so worn out that she was only usable on relatively safe routes, such as in the Indonesian archipelago and the routes to the Spice Islands.

On May 2, 1659, she was torn from her anchor during a storm and driven onto the cliffs. She sprang a leak and took on water. The crew and the cattle on board were rescued.1
