History

The Hoop was a ship of the Dutch West India Company (WIC). It was part of the fleet of admiral Cornelis 'Peg Leg' Jol, and fought along in a naval battle against the Spanish Tierra Firma fleet under Carlos de Ibarra on the 30th of August 1638, near Organo on the west coast of Cuba.

Status

Fate

It is not clear what happened to the ship. It was still operational 1639 according to the list of Johan Maurits, but not anymore in 1640.

Slave trade

According to Slavevoyages.org, the Hoop made a voyage with enslaved people in 1637 from the Bight of Biafra and the islands in the Gulf of Guinea. Of the 237 people taken on board, 229 survived the voyage. The enslaved people were sold in Mouyree.
