History

De 'Eendracht' was the vice admiral ship of the first official reconnaissance squad (De Hoop, De Trouw and Eendracht) of the WIC under the direction of Pieter Schouten. It was separated from the other two ships at Cuba.

Near Cabo San Anton, the Eendracht encountered two ships of the so-called Honduras fleet en route to Havana. A Spanish ship was captured. The ship was taken in tow. Subsequently, the two ships were driven deep into the Gulf of Mexico by currents and wind. Somewhere near the Dry Tortuga Islands, the Eendracht ran aground. The ship was lost. The crew then had to transfer to the Spanish ship. With this, Zeeland was reached safe and sound on September 16, 1624 (De Laet, I,32).
